Mercedes is ready with A class in “green” style
Worries regarding environment pollution with noxious fumes, as the rising price of fuel, determined auto producers to launch specific car lines to satisfy the two big problems. Bluemotion from Volkswagen, ‘eco²‘ line from Renault or ECOnetic from Ford are good examples. Mercedes couldn’t stand behind them so they introduced the FE line (Fuel Efficient) in A class, this one joining the similar model already existent in C class.
Class A FE
Base model FE from A Class is A160 CDI, at which the consumption reduced with 0,4 liters at 100 km vis a vis A160 CDI model. This reduced consumption was obtained by some modifications brought to the car, making it easier and more economic. Also the level of CO2 emissions was reduced, from 128 g of the standard model to 119 g/km at FE model.
The car received new tires with a reduced surface of contact with ground, glass that was used for windscreen and rear/fron windows became lighter, reservoir is also smaller. Diesel version gets a gear box with a less weight, this modifications making the car to reduce extra kg.
Class C FE
Consumption at “green” model from C class is very close to the one of the FE model in A class, with a reduction of 0,6 l / 100km, and carbon emissions are lower too, about 15g/km. In premium segment, german competitors of Mercedes, like BMW or Audi, didn’t take too much measures to counterattack FE line, maybe because every modification brings after it a price rise.
